Bringing their perfect blend of virtuosity, ensemble interplay and playful sense of humour is THE HANDSOMEST MEN IN THE WORLD (Andrew Saragossi and Daniel Waddingham), having released their album via MNM. Joining the lineup for this fire double-bill is hypnotic, minimal, groove-based ensemble TL;DR - (Peter Knight, Helen Svoboda, Theo Carbo and Quinn Knight) performing music from their debut album released via Earshift Music.

THE HANDSOMEST MEN IN THE WORLD

Jawbone Arboretum is the debut album from Melbourne-based duo The Handsomest Men in the World. With a shared passion for extending the sonic possibilities of their instruments, Daniel Waddingham (guitar) and Andrew Saragossi (saxophone) fuse together their own unorthodox approaches to music making to cultivate a work that is daring and honest. Inspired by ideas of impermanence and multidimensionality, this album challenges traditional approaches to instrumental roles and improvisation by emphasising the fluidity, density, and movement of sound. The music traverses through a large array of sound worlds that are adorned with lingering melodies, eclectic textures, and melancholic moods.

TL;DR

TL;DR is a new quartet brought together by trumpeter/composer Peter Knight who was until recently the artistic director of the Australian Art Orchestra (2013-23). Peter has developed an international reputation as an innovator who is extending the possibilities of his instrument with approaches that interweave acoustic preparations, extended techniques with electroacoustic processing via laptop, vintage delays, tape machines, and pedals.Crossing generations,TL; DR sees Peter Knight’s team up with some of the most influentialyounger musicians on the Melbourne scene. Bassist/vocalist, Helen Svoboda, who has built alarge audience for her distinctive approach to double bass and voice, floats her melodic wordlesssoprano over deep grooves. Guitarist, Theo Carbo, who is highly regarded for his spare butdriving approach to his instrument uses rhythmic repetition and textural variation to stunningeffect, while brilliant 20 year old drummer Quinn Knight (who also happens to be Peter’s son), laysdown shimmering cymbal washes and texturally rich beats that underpin the group’s sound.
